The experience

Explore the exhibits and learn about their history

Visit the Carnavalet Museum, which is the oldest museums of Paris, and see the exhibits. It opened to the public on February 25, 1880, in the Hôtel Carnavalet, located in the Marais district.

Since then, the museum has expanded, including the addition of the Hôtel Le Peletier de Saint-Fargeau in 1989. Today, the buildings reflect more than 450 years of architectural history.

The museum’s collections cover the history of Paris from prehistory to the present.

The museum holds over 618,000 items, including paintings, sculptures, models, drawings, photographs, furniture, and everyday objects. Together, they present the history of the city and how it has changed over time.
