The experience

Hike through green forest and navigate a rock scramble

Start your hike at Gavea Rock or Pedra da Gávea, standing 842 meters (2,763 feet) above Rio de Janeiro. A hotel pickup takes you to the trailhead, where a 2.5-hour hike begins through the Atlantic Forest to the peak.

The last part of the hike includes a 15-meter (49-foot) rock climb and trails along cliff edges, all of which are navigated safely.

At the top, spend 30–40 minutes viewing Rio’s landmarks like Tijuca Forest, Christ the Redeemer, São Conrado Beach, Rocinha favela, and Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. Descend the same trail back and enjoy a comfortable ride back to your hotel.

Must know

Near the top, there’s a short rocky section with safety gear provided. It’s quick, safe, and beginner-friendly with no climbing experience needed

Wear light clothes and hiking shoes. Bring a small backpack with water, snacks, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, a cap or hat, and money for any extras

Before purchase

Hiking duration (roundtrip) is approximately 4 hours (3.7 miles) and is considered an advanced hike with a bit of light climbing

The tour is recommended for people over 12 years old

How to use

Please be at the agreed-upon pickup location at least 15 minutes before the tour starts

Pickup is possible at most hotels in São Conrado, Leblon, Ipanema, and Copacabana
