The experience
Go underground and explore the cistern independently
Visit the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern in Houston. Great for first time and repeat visitors alike, the Experiential Tour includes an introduction followed by an opportunity to explore the Cistern at your own pace. Digital and printed fact sheets are provided for all guests.
Find out how the structure was built in 1926 as the city's first drinking water reservoir. See its subterranean architecture with large columns and a 17-second echo.
The interior is the size of 1.5 football fields and once held 15 million gallons of drinking water.
